Tokugawa Mausoleum

Built in 1643 by the third generation Shogun of the Tokugawa family, Iemitsu. On both sides are identical buildings, each designed with roofbeams joining at the cen- tral apex and measuring 5.4 meters tall. To the right is the tomb of the great gen- eral Ieyasu, while to the left is the tomb of Hidetaka. It is recorded that these two were built by the wandering saints of Koya (Koya hijiri). There was originally a hall for the repository of memorial tablets (of the deceased), but only the cornerstone remains. [From the Edo period, Important Cultural Asset]
