This hall in front of Kobo Daishi's Shrine is well known by the saying, 'a single lamp from a poor woman, ten thousand lamps from a millionaire." It was originally built by Daishi's disciple Shinzen as an offering on the occasion of the master's passing. The present structure was con- structed as part of the 1150th memorial celebration of the founding of Koyasan. It is made of rein- forced concrete, encloses 1381 square meters, and is filled with thousands of lamps offered by the faithful from all over the country. -
